Chestnut Lodge Pet Crematorium and Pet Cemetery, originally known as The Cemetery and Crematorium for Domestic Pets, is set in the quiet Sussex countryside near East Grinstead and within easy reach of London and the South coast. Established in 1969, the CCDP offers a sensitive and professional service for the burial or cremation of companion animals.

Pet Cremations are Individual and Private in Separate Cremation Chambers 

We initially concentrated on providing a first-class service for individual pet cremations and burials. The actual pet crematorium consists of two small, purpose built units which will comfortably accept the largest of domestic pets and a special compact unit for the cremation of small animals. The chambers for the units entirely enclosed to ensure your pets receive a genuine individual and private cremation the way you expect. Our procedures are set to ensure the highest possible standards. Ashes from individual cremations may be returned to owners – we have a number of different presentations depending on your tastes and your intentions for the ashes. Alternately they may be scattered or buried in memorial plots within the Cemetery grounds.

Genuine Communal Pet Cremation – the finest service in the South-East

In 1992 a decision was made to provide a respectful alternative to the individual service by introducing a facility for communal cremation. While the dignified handling remains the same, several pets are cremated together with all the ashes being collected after the final cooling. These are then buried in known areas of the Pet Cemetery grounds which are later developed into memorial beds with shrubs and flowers. Clients may have memorials placed in these beds.  The service is available either through veterinary surgeries or directly to the public. The veterinary practices who use our service for their clients’ pets’ have found enormous advantages over the normal disposal methods of other so-called “crematoria” both in terms of efficiency and good client relations. We provide the service the majority of clients want for their pets – dignified handling, genuine cremation and a recognised and respectful final resting place. We are probably the only pet crematorium in the South-East providing this service.

Chestnut Lodge Pet Cemetery – for full pet burials, ashes burials, scattering of ashes and pet memorials

The Pet Cemetery is informally laid out in an area sheltered by trees and shrubs, providing a peaceful and relaxing setting. Burials are carried out according to clients’ wishes and every plot is permanently marked. Memorials for graves may be purchased through the Cemetery and a variety of styles are available in slate, marble, stone or granite. Clients are free to visit graves at any time during normal opening hours.

Chestnut Lodge Pet Crematorium and Pet Cemetery is a Founder Member of the Association of Private Pet Cemeteries & Crematoria, the only organization in the UK setting standards for the industry. These standards are being adopted all over the world. All our procedures meet or exceed the requirements of the Code of Practice. We are actively involved in promoting correct standards for the pet bereavement industry through the Association and welcome discussions with Veterinary Practices on this subject.

We are fully licensed and satisfy all Duty of Care requirements for businesses dealing with us. We always aim to satisfy the needs of the pet owner whilst meeting all legal requirements. In that way we protect the reputations of Veterinary Practices who work with us as well as enhancing our own standing.
